Visit Playa de las Americas

Playa de las Americas is a resort on south coast of of Tenerife not far from Los Cristianos. The south of Tenerife is generally sunnier and drier than the north and so if you are looking for sun, beaches and nightlife this is the resort for you.

Explore Playa de las Americas

Playa de las Americas is Tenerife's biggest resort and definitely the place to come if you are looking for a lively nightlife. It did have a poor reputation due to fights and drunks but Playa de las Americas has increased its police presence and spent a lot of money on upgrading the resort and it is now much improved.

Playa de las Americas has lots of clubs and so you can party all night long. It also has lots of pubs, restaurants and fast-food restaurants. Most of the nightlife is centred along 'The Strip'. The Veronicas strip, the Patch and the Starco Commercial Centre are the main areas for nightlife and for shopping head for Las Americas Avenue.

Arona Park in Playa de las Americas

If you are looking for the real Tenerife this is not the resort to choose. If you are looking for a fun party atmosphere with lots of young people then this is the one to choose. However nowadays with a new focus Playa de las Americas is also popular with couples and families and there are a lot of upmarket bars and restaurants catering for those wanting something more sophisticated.

The main beach is a nice sandy beach with yellow sand and so nicer looking than the black beaches that are the natural ones on Tenerife. The beach has lots of facilities including a range of watersports. If you like surfing head to Playa de Guincho which is also popular for windsurfing.

There are a number of shows and concerts that you can book on an evening In Playa de las Americas and these are very popular. Booking is recommended.

In the centre of Playa de las Americas there is a lovely park, the Central Park of Arona which has a great collection of plants native to the Canary Islands and also has play areas for children. Over forty species of palm trees can be found here as well as tamarind and macadamia trees and of course the famous dragon trees of the Canaries.

Places to visit nearby

If you are travelling with children they will definitely want to visit one of the water parks. Both Siam Park and Aqualand have great water rides. Alternatively you may wish to visit the nearby Jungle Park zoo which also has a jungle themed attraction with rope bridges and walkways. Whale watching is also possible and the boat trips often go past the spectacular Los Gigantes cliffs.
