Port Royale, super penthouse studio with stunning views
The Port Royale complex consists of low-rise very attractive apartments, surrounded by gardens with an abundance of flowers and plants around the whole area.
Our apartment has one of the premier positions on the complex, with stunning 270 degree views from the balcony over the town, harbour and across the sparkling Atlantic ocean to the island of La Gomera.
The balcony is large and very private, nice to sit on whilst enjoying a leisurely breakfast or perhaps nursing a glass of wine in the evening and looking over at the twinkling lights of the town and harbour. Some nights the fierce red glow of the sunset will take your breath away.
On a clear day pilot whales can often be seen leaping out of the water, following in the wake of the pleasure boats that regularly leave the harbour.
Lets tell you about Port Royale
In the late 1980’s an enterprising American investor had a vision!
He looked beyond the uninviting barren land that was most of the south of the island. He realized the climate of the Canary Isles was quite unique in that it is so temperate, there are mild winters and warmer summers, normally without the extremes of temperature that other popular Mediterranean countries had.
He made a bold decision and decided to build in the area known as Oasis del Sur in Los Cristianos. This area was set back from the town, quite apart from the rest of the building work that had started in Los Cristianos and Playa de La Americas at that time.
First of all he built the well known timeshare resort of Beverly Hills, followed by Beverly Hills Heights around the corner. At the time both were quite innovative in their design style and the quality of materials used, definitely different from the usual box style apartments of that era that look so dated now.
He then reasoned that timeshare wasn’t for everyone, so his next project was to build apartments for private purchase, but still insisting they were built with his trademark quality. Thus Port Royale evolved.
The final project, the timeshare 5 star resort of Hollywood Mirage was finished a few years later and the neon lit Hollywood sign, set in the hills behind the resort, was a landmark for miles around.
The completion of this group of properties made the the Oasis del Sur district, with its outstanding views over the town, very sought after. Consequently over the years more and more restaurants opened to cater for the holiday-makers and residents and now Oasis del Sur has its own little community.
On site at Port Royale
Port Royale has a good sized pool (heated in winter) with free use of sunbeds and umbrellas around the pool area. The popular Roma Grill restaurant serves lunches and evening meals daily, while a good sized supermarket is 200 metres away. You will be spoilt for choice with the number of other quality restaurants nearby.
We have an Owners Office that’s open weekdays with public internet access and an English book swap/magazine corner. Postcards, stamps etc are also on sale.
Naturally there is an English key holder available and for complete peace of mind there is a security patrol every evening.
This is a quiet, friendly complex with many permanent residents and it tends to attract families and mature couples, definitely not for the 18-30s! .
The Apartment
We truly want you to relax and feel at home in our apartment - it has a spacious sleeping area with twin beds and plenty of wardrobe space leading to the living area with comfy double sofa bed , extra sofa, coffee table, TV unit etc .
The kitchen area has recently been re-fitted and has a ceramic hob, fridge, kettle, microwave & toaster. A spacious new fully tiled shower room has a corner walk-in shower unit and a wash basin /marble vanity unit. The living room includes a ceiling fan, satellite TV for all popular English channels including BBC 1&2, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky Sports 1. An iron, ironing board and hairdryer are supplied for your convenience, and there is free use of a safe for any valuables.
The large, south-west facing balcony has a patio table and 4 chairs for alfresco dining - there are also two sun beds for sunbathing in privacy. The apartment is on the top (3rd) floor from pool level. We are the last apartment in a row of 4, which means there is no-one walking past your door and no-one above you, so you have complete privacy. You will be pleasantly surprised at the size of the studio, it’s larger than average with plenty of storage.
All towels and bedding are supplied, with a towel and bedding change included for stays of over one week. The apartment is cleaned and prepared for your arrival. All we ask you to bring are beach towels.
Around and about
If you want to stay in the local area at night there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the apartment. One of the best is the Roma Grill on Port Royale itself, with steaks, pizzas etc and full takeaway service. For Mexican food there is the famous Rosie’s Cantina at the front of Royal Palm, and there are cooked breakfasts as well as evening meals at the Plaza bar at Beverly Hills — you can also catch a cabaret act most evenings at the LA Showbar there, which has free admission to non residents.
Beverly Hills also has a sports centre with squash, ten pin bowling, pool tables, games machines etc, while Hollywood Mirage opposite Port Royale has a gym (open to non guests but with small charge)
The beauty of Tenerife is that you can choose the type of holiday you want: hectic and busy, lazy and relaxing or a mixture of everything.
Whatever the reason, people return year after year.
Car hire is cheap, or if you are just exploring locally the taxis are cheap and plentiful. Why not try the local (Titsa) bus? The bus station is within 10 minutes walk of the apartment with connections to places of interest all over the island and the bus is cheap, air conditioned, clean and efficient.
